Just a few days to go until the start of my Clean 9 plan so time to dive in and see what awaits.
What's In The Box?

First impressions are very positive. It's not a basis on which to form an opinion on the efficacy of the product clearly but the pack is well presented in a clean, clear, professional looking package that gives you a degree of comfort that you are in safe hands.
The Clean 9 pack contains the following;
- 2x 1 litre bottles Forever Aloe Vera Gel
- 1x Vanilla flavour Forever Lite Ultra shake mix
- Food supplement kit, including 54 Forever Garcinia Plus Softgels, 18 Forever Therm Tablets, 9 Forever Fibre Packets
- 1x shaker
- 1x tape measure
- 1x information booklet & planner
- 1x brochure
Forver Aloe Vera Gel
For the uninitiated, this may be the strangest part of the pack.
The Aloe Gel is a stablisied alove vera drink.' Various flavours are available which each offer different benefits but it is the original flavour drink included within the pack, which is designed to 'support immunity and contributes to the support of metabolism.'
This is the one part of the plan that is known to me as I have used the gel previously. It is a little strange to start with, both in terms of taste and texture. Those of a botanical persuasion may initially be put off at the thought of drinking a plant that they have on their window sill but you soon get used to it.
I had been drinking 60ml each morning which I split into two 30ml gulpfuls. Here you are required to drink 120ml for breakfast, lunch and dinner on days 1 and 2 with just a breakfast gel for days 3-9.
Let's be clear, this isn't going to replace your favouite Rose as tipple of choice at the dinner table, it has, shall we say, an acquired taste. But it is perfectly palatable once you get used to it.
Forever Lite Ultra Shake Mix
This may look a little more familiar to any fans of Slimfast and the like.
It is available in either chocolate or vanilla. I'm sure both are good for you but it seemed against the grain to plump for a chocolate under the circumstances so I chose the vanilla option.
The shakes form the basis for days 3-9 of the plan, acting as your lunch or dinner on each day. The shake is low carb and high protein and can be mixed with various healthy fruits to add a bit of flavour.
This will likely be the most challenging aspect for me, especially at work where I am used to having a tangible, physical food as meal or snack.
Food Supplements
The tablets are taken throughout the plan at each meal time whilst the fibre is a powder supplement that can be mixed with water or other beverage including, if you haven't had quite enough yet, more Aloe Vera Gel.
These supplements are designed to provide vitamins and minerals that help to combat tiredness and fatigue as well as helping with weight management.
Shaker & Tape Measure
A handy little shake bottle for measuring and storing your shakes, together with a tape measure for recording your progress.
Measurements will be an important factor for me. The easiest measure is of course stepping on the scales but there comes a point where the number doesn't shift and you can start to lose interest in your weight loss plan. The better measure is of course how you look and feel and so I will keenly monitor my body measurements. Who knows, perhaps I can achieve my target of a 32" waistline.
Information Booklet & Planner
The info book is a glossy A5 sized booklet which takes you through the stages of the plan. It does a nice job of setting out what you need to do each day together with a set of hints and reminders of the key aspects and some suggestions for different types of light-medium exercise. It also includes a number of low calorie recipie ideas that can be used both during and after the C9 as well as listing a number of so called 'free foods,' a choice from various fruits and vegetables, that can be used as supplementary snack foods throughout the plan.
The booklet includes a goals and daily planner section so that you can keep an account of what you eat and what you do each day. This is something I have already been doing and have found it to be an important part of previous weight loss. Documenting your food intake makes you accountable for what you are eating and I have found it a really effective tool for managing calories.
I broadly covered my goals in the first post and will detail them further on day one. Again, this is a vitally important aspect to give yourself motivation and realistic targets to aim for.
Clean 9 Here We Come!
That's the Clean 9 pack, my life in a box for 9 days.
After giving it a lot of thought I will be starting my plan on Saturday, 9th January. This allows me the relative freedom of home to acclimatise to the plan, taste everything and get through the hardest days before going to work.
I am nervous but also excited to see what impact this might have, both on my immediate well being and appearance as well as my ongoing attitutde to diet and healthy living.
